“Ghetto Shakespearean Zombie” by Kristen Marie Boyle

The following poem was written by a former student of mine when I was teaching a poetry class online. If I remember correctly, the theme of this assignment was enjambment. For those unfamiliar with the term, enjambment is the strategic breaking up of lines to create suspense. I have since resigned my duties on the website DarkPoetry, but I am grateful for the time I spent teaching the course. Without further shenanigans…

“Ghetto Shakespearean Zombie” by Kristen Marie Boyle

Jack
dreams
in

colors..

Reading
tarot cards
in New York..

spreading

peace

love

and

positive vibes

taking
photos

of his world ..

a world
as beautiful

as he
describes..

Soft spoken..

pot smoking..

thought provoking

he
weaves
poetic webs..

capturing
his readers

in vibrant

gossamer

threads

Leaving them
to anticipate

What lies
ahead..

I read him
on DP

a ghetto

shakespearian

zombie..

now he’s
teaching me

onomatopoeia

meters

free style

imagery

He does so with
patience..

most brillantly

A poetic genius
helping me tweek
my ability

that
makes me

as happy

as can be..

To be apart
of his Dp course

as I’m sure

we all can

agree.

So grateful. Thank you, Kristen.
